In a society increasingly marked by the paradox of digital connectivity and emotional isolation, the U.S. Surgeon General’s recent advisory underscores a disquieting reality: loneliness has become more pervasive than many other critical health concerns. Its insidious grasp extends across demographics, with older adults notably at risk. Loneliness and social isolation, while often underestimated, are now acknowledged as catalysts for severe health issues, emphasizing the profound role social connections play in individual well-being and the overall health of our communities.

Samaritan, in collaboration with the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey, Aleph Home Care, and Older Adults Resource Connections, recognizes the urgency of addressing social isolation, loneliness, and the need for meaningful connection among older adults. To tackle this issue head-on, they are excited to announce a FREE Social Isolation, Loneliness, and Connection Information Session, scheduled for Monday, November 6, 2023. This insightful event will take place at the Amy Silvers Community Building within Weinberg Commons (1707 Springdale Road) in Cherry Hill, and it runs from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

This informative session aims to delve into the myriad of factors that contribute to social isolation and loneliness in older adults. More importantly, it will empower attendees with strategies to forge stronger social connections and foster a profound sense of belonging within their communities.

Sally Cezo, Director of Social Isolation Impact at Samaritan, underscores the pivotal role of social connection in an individual’s overall health and well-being. She notes, “Many people do not realize the importance of social connection when it comes to a person’s overall health and wellbeing. This information session will provide attendees with a detailed look at the topics of social isolation and loneliness and their specific impacts on the older adult population.”

Robyn Kaplan, Executive Director of Older Adults at the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey, shares the collective aspiration: “Our hope is that all who attend walk away with a thorough understanding of this critical issue, as well as applicable strategies and life skills to improve overall health and wellbeing.”

The presentation will be expertly led by Jillian Racoosin, Executive Director of the Foundation for Social Connection. She has spoken across the United States on the pressing matter of social isolation and loneliness. Racoosin’s insights also contributed to the U.S. Surgeon General’s Advisory on Loneliness and the Healing Power of Connection. During her presentation, Racoosin will offer practical advice on how to foster stronger social connections. She will also shed light on the collaborative efforts between the Foundation and its partners, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to addressing social isolation and loneliness, both at the individual and societal levels.

Attendance at this free information session is by registration only. Interested participants can call 856-685-5700 x2001 to secure their spot.
