A pedestrian tragedy struck Cherry Hill when a fatal collision occurred on Kings Highway, claiming the life of a local resident.
The incident unfolded around 9 p.m. on Thursday, as a vehicle traveling southbound collided with a pedestrian attempting to cross Kings Highway, south of Chapel Avenue. Despite immediate response from authorities, the pedestrian, identified as a Cherry Hill resident, succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Cherry Hill Police Lieutenant Thomas Leone confirmed that the driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation by the Cherry Hill Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit. However, the identities of both the victim and the driver have not yet been disclosed by the authorities.
This tragic event adds to a concerning history of accidents along Kings Highway, particularly between Route 70 and Chapel Avenue. Prior incidents have claimed lives and prompted safety concerns from local residents. Notably, similar accidents occurred in August 31 and March 2020, resulting in fatalities at the same intersection.
With the roadway falling under the jurisdiction of the state as part of Route 41, concerns about safety persist among residents, who hope for measures to address the ongoing risks posed to pedestrians and motorists alike.
