A somber incident unfolded on Monday night in Cherry Hill, resulting in the tragic loss of an elderly cyclist who succumbed to his injuries, according to the local police.
The collision transpired at around 9:15 p.m. on Route 70 westbound near Cuthbert Boulevard. It involved a vehicle and a cyclist who were both traveling in the same direction within the right lane, as detailed by Cherry Hill Police Lt. Thomas Leone.
The driver responsible for the accident remained at the scene and promptly called for emergency assistance. Tragically, the cyclist, a 76-year-old man, was transported to Cooper Hospital, but despite medical efforts, he could not overcome his injuries, Leone stated.
As of now, the authorities have not publicly disclosed the identities of those involved. The Cherry Hill Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit is actively conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Regrettably, this incident marks the third fatal crash to occur in Cherry Hill since August 28, according to state records, underlining the importance of road safety and the need for increased awareness among motorists and cyclists alike.
