Samaritan, a leading provider of home-based primary care, palliative medicine, hospice care, and grief support, announces a significant change in its healthcare leadership team. Effective April 1, 2024, Dr. Sara Pagliaro is promoted to the role of Chief Medical Officer, while Dr. Stephen Goldfine transitions to a new part-time role as Physician Executive within the organization.

Phillip W. Heath, President & CEO of Samaritan, expressed his confidence in both physicians, highlighting their exceptional leadership, clinical expertise, and unwavering compassion for patients and their families. “We are thrilled to congratulate Dr. Pagliaro on her promotion to Chief Medical Officer, and we are grateful to have Dr. Goldfine continuing on in his role as Physician Executive,” Heath stated.

As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Pagliaro assumes full responsibility for the executive leadership of Samaritan and oversees all clinical healthcare services provided by the organization, serving more than 11,000 patients, clients, and families annually.

Dr. Pagliaro brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having held various leadership positions during her tenure at Samaritan. She joined the organization in 2012 as a Hospice & Palliative Physician, later advancing to Associate Director of Palliative Medicine and then Vice President of Medical Services. Dr. Pagliaro’s expertise extends to dementia care, and she actively collaborates with national healthcare organizations, including the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation. She is also the Medical Director of Jefferson Health East (NJ) Palliative Medicine and serves on Jefferson’s Ethics and Cancer Committees.

Dr. Goldfine, Samaritan’s former Chief Medical Officer since 2003, will transition to a part-time role as Physician Executive. Over the past two decades, he has played a pivotal role in expanding Samaritan’s healthcare services, from hospice to palliative medicine and primary care. In his new capacity, Dr. Goldfine will continue to support Samaritan’s Home Visit Physicians and Palliative Medical Partners programs.

The appointment of Dr. Pagliaro as Chief Medical Officer marks an important milestone for Samaritan as it continues to provide exceptional care and support to individuals and families facing serious illness or grief.
