In a swift response to an attempted carjacking, two recently appointed officers in Cherry Hill successfully apprehended the suspect, ensuring the safety of a potential victim, according to Cherry Hill Police Chief Robert Kempf.
On the evening of February 10, at around 7:15 p.m., a driver reported a harrowing incident of attempted carjacking. The victim recounted that a lone male suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Paul Adams, approached his vehicle while stuck in traffic. Adams allegedly shouted at the victim to exit the car and then attempted to forcibly open the door to remove the victim.
Displaying remarkable composure, the victim managed to pull away and quickly sought assistance. Officer Maximillian Schwetje, who happened to be handling an unrelated call for service nearby, was flagged down by the victim. Schwetje promptly relayed the information to other law enforcement officers.
Officer Jared Colbert, responding to the alert, located Adams fleeing northbound in a parking lot just off Brace Road. Adams, a resident of Darby, Pennsylvania, was swiftly apprehended and subsequently charged with first-degree carjacking and robbery.
The victim emerged unharmed from the incident, a testament to the effectiveness of the police response and the quick thinking of the newly appointed officers.
