Southern chicken chain PDQ has closed two of its South Jersey restaurants, bidding farewell to Sicklerville and Cherry Hill. This change leaves New Jersey with just one remaining PDQ location in Marlton.
In 2015, PDQ ventured into New Jersey and the Northeast, opening its doors to the community in Sicklerville. A year later, the fast-food establishment expanded into Cherry Hill. However, both of these establishments have now ceased their operations.
PDQ, short for “People Dedicated to Quality,” was founded in 2009 and opened its first restaurant in Tampa, Florida, two years later. While the business has approximately 70 locations, the majority are situated in the Sunshine State.
The closures come at a time when other Southern chicken chains are making their mark in the Garden State, with names like Raising Cane’s and Bojangles. Raising Cane’s is actively working on several locations in South Jersey, while Bojangles has ambitious plans to open 10 restaurants across North and Central Jersey. These newcomers face stiff competition from well-established Southern chicken eateries, like Chick-fil-A, which have held a strong presence in the state.
The now-shuttered PDQ restaurant in Cherry Hill was located at 614 Haddonfield Rd. While some locations have ceased operations, PDQ remains a staple for those who enjoy quality Southern-style chicken in the Marlton area.
