After the recent closure of Devil’s Creek Brewery in Collingswood, the town is soon to welcome a new brewery as Swedesboro Brewing Company takes over the space. Swedesboro Brewing Company plans to launch The Raccoon Taproom at 1 Powell Ln, a location that will undergo renovations and brewing expansions for approximately two months.
Devil’s Creek Brewery, which opened in 2016 as Collingswood’s first craft brewery, recently closed following a sale to Swedesboro Brewing Company. Collingswood, historically a ‘dry’ town, allowed the establishment of craft breweries after passing an ordinance in 2016.
Founded in 2020, Swedesboro Brewing Co. gained recognition as the nation’s second-best new brewery, as per a USA Today 10Best list based on reader and editor choices. Marvin Bowe, the owner, expressed excitement about bringing the brewery’s excellent craft beer reputation to Collingswood.
Swedesboro Brewing plans to brew six of its flagship beers at The Raccoon Taproom and introduce six exclusive beers tailored to the local palate. The raccoon theme aligns with Swedesboro Brewing’s mascot, Hoppie the Raccoon, featured in the company logo. The raccoon, known for its charisma, adaptability, and generosity, symbolizes Swedesboro Brewing’s commitment to sharing curiosity, ingenuity, and wisdom in crafting unique beer styles.
The brewery’s website states, ‘Like the raccoon, we too are curious – about crafting different beer styles – and devoted – to providing you the best we have to offer. As the raccoon totem urges us, we promise to share our curiosity, ingenuity, and wisdom for our craft with you.’
Swedesboro Brewing Co. is currently situated at 95 Woodstown Rd., Swedesboro. The move to take over Devil’s Creek’s location aims to continue providing residents and visitors with a diverse and exceptional craft beer experience in Collingswood, maintaining the town’s connection to unique and quality brews despite the recent closure.
