Get ready for a dazzling display of fireworks, as Cherry Hill gears up to celebrate Independence Day with a grand event on July 3. This marks a significant return, as the township plans its first major Fourth of July celebration in over a decade.
The festivity will unfold at the Michael J. Santarpio Field at Jonas C. Morris Stadium, located at Cherry Hill High School West, a venue that has hosted the township’s past Fourth of July celebrations. The decision to bring back fireworks follows a hiatus that began in 2014 when public-safety officials deemed the previous location unsuitable for handling large crowds. Despite a hiatus, the township has remained committed to reigniting the Independence Day tradition.
For nearly 30 years, Cherry Hill had been renowned for its spectacular fireworks displays, attracting thousands of attendees. However, in 2014, the show was canceled due to safety concerns. Last year’s plans for a 4th of July Parade were also scrapped, citing a lack of participant sign-ups. Mayor Dave Fleisher is excited to announce the return of this cherished tradition.
“I am pleased to be able to deliver for our community the opportunity to come together to safely celebrate Independence Day,” said Mayor Fleisher. “With music and entertainment, delicious food from local businesses, and an exciting fireworks display, this year’s celebration will unite us and create lasting memories for our children.”
The festivities are set to include live entertainment, musical performances, and delectable offerings from local vendors, culminating in a breathtaking fireworks display at dusk. Planning for the event is already in progress, with additional details set to be released in late spring or early summer.
To ensure the safety of all attendees and nearby residents, the Cherry Hill Police Department is actively involved in coordinating logistics. The township will also implement traffic measures to minimize disruptions for neighbors.
Council President Bill Carter expressed support for the mayor’s commitment to bringing the community together through events and activities like this, anticipating a joyous and safe Fourth of July holiday for all. As anticipation builds, Cherry Hill residents can look forward to a spectacular return of the Independence Day fireworks tradition that has been dearly missed for over a decade.
