Tragedy struck earlier this month in Camden County as a drunk driver caused a multi-vehicle crash resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries, according to authorities on Thursday.
Michael Tucker, impaired by alcohol, was at the wheel during the collision in Pennsauken, as confirmed by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office (CCPO). Tragically, one victim, 76-year-old Angel Caraballo of Camden, succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital hours later.
In addition to Tucker, three other victims sustained injuries in the crash and were promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention, as reported by the CCPO. Authorities had to extricate one victim who was trapped inside a vehicle due to the severity of the collision.
Michael Tucker, aged 30 and a resident of Washington Township, now faces serious charges, including death by auto and two counts of assault by auto.
The harrowing four-car crash unfolded shortly before 1 p.m. on August 8 at the intersection of Route 130 Southbound and Drexel Avenue, according to Pennsauken police. On that fateful day, law enforcement responded to a scene where several individuals had suffered grave injuries, and a suspected drunk driver had been taken into custody.
Pennsauken police, in collaboration with the CCPO, initiated a thorough investigation into the incident. However, during the initial stages of the investigation, authorities did not disclose the identities of those involved.
Toxicology results, which were released on August 24, revealed that Michael Tucker’s blood alcohol concentration exceeded the legal limit. As of Thursday afternoon, he remains in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.
