In a unanimous decision, the Township Council has given the green light for Tommy’s Tavern + Tap to serve alcohol at its upcoming Cherry Hill restaurant, marking a significant step forward in the establishment’s journey towards its grand opening.
The approval comes as Tommy’s Tavern + Tap prepares to replace the former Houlihan’s at 2050 Route 70, which closed its doors unexpectedly in January. The transfer of a plenary retail consumption license, approved on Monday, enables Tommy’s to sell alcohol for on-premise consumption, setting the stage for a vibrant dining experience.
Owners of Tommy’s Tavern + Tap shared with Patch on Wednesday that they anticipate the Cherry Hill location to welcome guests next spring. The liquor license, crucial for the restaurant’s operations, was transferred from Cherry Hill Three, LLC.
Tommy’s Tavern + Tap emerged during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, navigating challenges to open multiple restaurants across New Jersey. The family-run chain currently boasts eight eateries in New Jersey, one in Staten Island, and another in Delaware. Last summer saw the debut of the first South Jersey location in Mount Laurel.
Known for its diverse menu offerings, including pizza, sushi, wings, and an array of alcoholic beverages, Tommy’s Tavern + Tap strives to cater to a wide range of tastes. Despite the passing of founder Thomas Bonfiglio in July 2022 at the age of 62, his family continues to carry on his legacy by managing the Triple T Hospitality Group, which oversees all Tommy’s restaurants, as well as Tio Taco + Tequila Bar—a venture with four locations, including one in Marlton.
