Cherry Hill school officials have unveiled their comprehensive timeline for the superintendent selection process, with the aspiration of appointing a new leader for the district by mid-June.

The Cherry Hill Township School District, renowned as one of New Jersey’s largest school systems, has outlined the schedule for their quest to find a new superintendent. Dr. Joseph Meloche’s departure to assume the same role in a Pennsylvania school district, as announced in March, has left Cherry Hill without a permanent superintendent since June’s end. Consequently, the district is embarking on a nationwide search to identify the ideal successor.

During this interim period, Dr. Kwame Morton, a distinguished district administrator, is diligently serving as the acting superintendent.

The district’s superintendent search has now advanced into the “engagement phase.” Officials have already hosted an in-person focus group, with three virtual focus group sessions scheduled for the coming weeks on September 15th, September 20th at 11:30 a.m., and September 27th at 7 p.m. Further details on accessing these meetings can be found below. An online survey is also available for community input.

The subsequent “recruitment phase” was initiated at the end of June and will run until December 12th, as per the district’s update. On June 27th, the Cherry Hill Board of Education engaged the services of Hazard Young Atea Associates (HYA) to spearhead this search.

Cherry Hill’s “selection phase” is tentatively set to span from December 12th to June 14th, encompassing board interviews with the shortlisted candidates and other steps integral to the appointment process. Subsequently, the transition phase for the incoming superintendent is slated to commence on June 14th.

HYA, renowned for conducting superintendent searches on a national scale, has issued a job posting specifically for prospective Cherry Hill applicants.

The triumphant candidate will be offered a multi-year contract with a salary range approximately hovering around $260,000, pending experience, qualifications, and negotiations—according to HYA’s listing. Dr. Meloche’s final salary at Cherry Hill stood at $230,625, ranking as the 96th highest among public-school administrators in New Jersey.
