The Cherry Hill Board of Education is gearing up for a significant development as they prepare to vote on the appointment of a new member. The candidate in consideration for this pivotal role is Quadsia Niaz, and the decision is set to be finalized during the upcoming board meeting.

The vacancy in the school board arose when Jennifer Fleisher resigned from her position on December 31. Her departure was prompted by her husband, Dave Fleisher, being elected as Cherry Hill’s mayor. The school board, in an effort to fill this void, embarked on a thorough selection process that involved interviews with sixteen candidates.

Quadsia Niaz emerged as a noteworthy candidate during this process and is positioned to bring her unique perspective to the board if the vote is successful. Niaz, a technical recruiter for iQuasar, a Virginia-based company catering to government contractors, has not only professional expertise but also a deep-rooted connection to the Cherry Hill community.

A Cherry Hill native and alumni of Cherry Hill High School West, Niaz ran for the Cherry Hill Board of Education in the previous year’s election as a write-in candidate. Her campaign centered around key values such as “accessibility for all,” “high student achievement,” and “equitable learning environments.”

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Niaz identifies as a Muslim-American community organizer and social justice advocate. Her commitment to creating inclusive and equitable learning spaces aligns with the values upheld by the Cherry Hill Board of Education.

Should the vote pass in her favor, Quadsia Niaz’s term as a board member would extend through the conclusion of 2024. The decision on her appointment will be unveiled during the upcoming school board meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Arthur Lewis Administration Building on 45 Ranoldo Terrace. This marks a significant step forward for the Cherry Hill School Board as they strive to maintain strong representation and leadership within the community.
