Philip Puche, a 76-year-old Cherry Hill resident, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder of his ex-wife, Nancy Kenny, a former Cherry Hill educator.
Puche was found guilty last month of the July 2020 stabbing incident that resulted in Kenny’s death. The sentencing took place on May 15, and Puche will not be eligible for parole for 34 years.
The tragic incident occurred outside Kenny’s home in Audubon Park, which she shared with her new husband. Puche attacked Kenny, inflicting multiple lacerations to her head and neck. Despite emergency surgery at Cooper University Hospital, Kenny succumbed to her injuries in March 2021. Her death was ruled a homicide caused by complications from multiple incised wounds.
Puche was arrested on the day of the attack and held in the Camden County Correctional Facility until his trial. On April 3, a jury convicted him of first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, second-degree burglary, and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
In addition to the 40-year sentence for murder, Puche received concurrent sentences of 10 years for robbery, seven years for burglary, and four years for the weapons offense. He must serve 85 percent of his murder sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
Nancy Kenny was remembered as a dedicated educator who worked with children in special education in the Cherry Hill School District. Her loss has been deeply felt by the community.
