In an annual effort to maintain a peaceful shopping environment, Cherry Hill Mall has announced restrictions on unaccompanied minors on the day after Christmas. The initiative aims to curb potential disturbances often associated with teenagers during the busy post-holiday shopping rush.
On Tuesday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., the mall will enforce a policy requiring all guests aged 17 and younger to be accompanied by a supervising adult who is at least 21 years old. A parent or adult supervisor can accompany up to four children during this period. To ensure compliance, proof of age will be required for entry.
The Cherry Hill Police Department, in collaboration with Cherry Hill Mall Management, shared the details on Facebook, emphasizing the importance of a safe shopping experience for all patrons. They stressed that parents and guardians should refrain from dropping off unsupervised children at retail shopping centers. Juveniles not acting responsibly will be escorted from the property, and those engaged in criminal behavior will face arrest and prosecution.
The mall’s decision to implement such measures stems from an incident on December 26, 2017, when hundreds of minors caused disturbances within the crowded mall. Five individuals were charged with offenses such as disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Recognizing that the day after Christmas is traditionally one of the busiest shopping days of the year, according to Sensoramic Solutions, the mall’s management is taking proactive steps to ensure a smooth and enjoyable shopping experience for all patrons. This policy also considers the fact that many schools observe winter break during this period, contributing to increased foot traffic in retail spaces. As the holiday season continues, Cherry Hill Mall encourages responsible shopping and a considerate approach to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment.
