Exciting news for pet parents in Cherry Hill – a brand new dog park is currently under construction at Cooper River Park. This pet-friendly project initiated by Camden County is set to take approximately 10 weeks to complete. With an estimated budget of $775,000, this development is a part of Camden County’s broader Parks Alive 2025 plan, a $100 million initiative aimed at revitalizing the county’s 24 parks, conservation areas, and waterways.
Cooper River Park, which spans across Cherry Hill, Pennsauken, Collingswood, and Haddon Township, is an integral part of Camden County’s park system.
Commissioner Jeff Nash, the liaison to the Parks Department, expressed, “The current dog park in Cooper River Park has been well-loved and utilized since its initial construction many years ago, but we felt it was time for an upgrade. This project will provide improved conditions for dog owners throughout the county, and we can’t wait to welcome all residents and their furry friends to the park soon.”
The construction plan includes several crucial elements:
-
Demolition: The existing dog park, concrete walkways, sections of the asphalt pavement parking area, asphalt walkways, and wooded areas will be removed.
-
New Dog Park: A brand new dog park will be built, featuring separate fenced areas for small dogs, large dogs, and agility equipment. Additionally, a pavilion, benches, and picnic tables will be installed for spectator viewing.
-
Parking Lot Improvements: The project entails the construction of parking lot enhancements, such as a new stone entrance, concrete ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) parking spaces, and sections of new concrete curbing.
-
Concrete Sidewalks: New concrete sidewalks will be constructed to provide direct connections to the dog park entrance, the view area, the existing asphalt walk, and parking areas.
-
Signage: The installation of new regulatory and warning signs for safety and guidance.
-
Landscaping: Finally, the project will include topsoil, seeding, sodding, and an irrigation system to ensure the greenery flourishes.
Cherry Hill Township Council Member Sangeeta Doshi expressed her enthusiasm for this project. “As a dog owner and resident, I am thrilled to see a new space that can be utilized by our community come to Cherry Hill,” said Doshi. “I already know this park will be loved by our dog owners, and I want to thank the (county) commissioners for fulfilling their promise of revitalizing our county’s green spaces.”
This fantastic new dog park is sure to become a beloved destination for dog owners and their furry companions in Cherry Hill. Stay tuned for more updates as the project progresses!
