National Cinema Day, a successful initiative introduced last year to rekindle the joy of theater-going, is making a triumphant return this Sunday. For those in Cherry Hill, this means a golden opportunity to catch your favorite flicks for just $4. The event’s intention remains steadfast: encouraging audiences to embrace the big screen experience once more. This year, the participating theaters in Cherry Hill are rolling out popular summer releases like “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer,” and more.
While the ticket prices have seen a slight increase from the previous year’s $3, the $4 rate still stands as a far cry from the average ticket cost, which currently sits at $10.35 according to the National Cinema Foundation, the driving force behind National Cinema Day. Across the nation, approximately 30,000 screens in 3,000 locations are joining this celebratory cinema event, with Cherry Hill’s AMC Cherry Hill among the participating theaters.
Some cinema chains, including AMC Theatres and Regal Movies, are adding extra incentives such as complimentary popcorn or exclusive promotions to amplify the moviegoing experience.
In addition to the roster of summer blockbusters like “Mission Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One” and “Blue Beetle,” discounted tickets are also available for new releases this weekend, such as “Gran Turismo,” “Golda,” “The Hill,” “Retribution,” and “Bottoms.”
The $4 tickets extend to beloved family hits as well, including “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and Disney’s “The Little Mermaid Sing-Along.” Classic films like “Jurassic Park (3D),” “American Graffiti,” “Lady Bird,” and “Oldboy” are also part of the offerings.
This marks the second year of National Cinema Day, organized by the National Cinema Foundation, a nonprofit affiliated with the National Association of Theater Owners. Last year, over 8 million individuals embraced the event, reveling in the cinematic experience as summer drew to a close.
In 2022, participating theaters garnered $23.8 million on National Cinema Day, demonstrating an 8 percent increase in ticket sales compared to the preceding Saturday. This event has not only served as a cinematic celebration but also as a testament to the enduring allure of the silver screen.
