Burlington Stores is leaving New Jersey after more than 50 years and moving its corporate headquarters to Manhattan, according to a Patch report by Carly Baldwin. The retailer, which has long been based in Burlington County, announced plans to open a new headquarters in the New York City borough as part of a broader effort tied to its growth strategy.
The company said the new Manhattan office will serve as its corporate headquarters, while it will keep an important presence in New Jersey. Burlington Stores plans to maintain its current office in Burlington Township as a hub for its supply chain, finance, legal, and human resources teams. The move marks a major shift for a company that has deep roots in the state dating back decades.
According to the report, Burlington said the relocation is intended to help support future growth and improve access to talent in the New York market. Company leaders said the Manhattan location will place Burlington closer to the center of the retail industry and help it attract employees in key business areas.
Even with the headquarters move, Burlington is not fully leaving New Jersey behind. Its Burlington Township campus will remain active, and the company emphasized that several business functions will continue operating there.
Burlington Stores was founded in 1972 as Burlington Coat Factory and has grown into a major national off-price retailer. The decision to establish a new headquarters in Manhattan reflects its continued evolution as the company expands its reach and operations.
