A local festival in Pennsauken was abruptly halted on Saturday night over public safety concerns, according to township officials.
The Summer Kick Off event, featuring family entertainment, food trucks, and fireworks, was brought to an early end. The township announced the decision on its Facebook page, stating that it was made on the advice of Pennsauken’s Office of Emergency Management and first responders.
“We apologize for the inconvenience, but the safety of our residents and the overall community comes first. We appreciate your understanding in this matter,” the announcement read.
While the township did not specify the exact nature of the safety concerns, 6abc Action News reported that fights had broken out during the event.
Patch reached out to township officials for further details but has not yet received a response.
The event was initially scheduled to run from 6-9 p.m. at the township’s recreation complex.
This incident follows a similar occurrence last weekend during Gloucester Township Day, another family-friendly event in Camden County, where large crowds were involved in fights. That event led to the arrest of a dozen people, with authorities still working to identify additional suspects.
