For over six decades, the Temptations have captivated audiences with their soulful harmonies and timeless hits. As they prepare to take the stage at the Scottish Rite Auditorium in Collingswood, NJ, Otis Williams, the group’s last surviving original member, reflects on their remarkable journey.
“It’s been amazing,” says Williams, now 82 years old. “Sixty-two years later, and I’m still a Temp. I’m so grateful to have made my life doing what I love best.”
From their humble beginnings to their meteoric rise to fame, the Temptations have left an indelible mark on pop and soul music. Their story has been immortalized in an Emmy-winning miniseries and a hit Broadway musical, but for Williams, the real joy comes from seeing their legacy live on through their music.
“Motown was put here for a reason,” says Williams. “And to be part of it, to be part of something so celebrated and known for all these wonderful songs – well, I thank God every day.”
Joining forces with fellow Motown legends, The Four Tops, the Temptations are set to deliver two unforgettable nights of music at the Scottish Rite Auditorium on May 11 and 12. For Williams, seeing their acclaimed autobiography come to life on Broadway was a surreal experience.
“I never imagined my life story would ever be on Broadway,” he says. “So many amazing memories.”
With hits like “My Girl,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” and “Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me),” the Temptations soundtracked the 1960s and ’70s with their smooth vocals and infectious melodies. Despite lineup changes over the years, Williams has kept the group together, ensuring that their music continues to inspire audiences around the world.
“They say I’m the glue,” says Williams. “And if I’m going to keep it glued together, it better be worth something.”
As they prepare to take the stage once again, Williams is proud of the current lineup and the legacy they continue to uphold. “We can all sing anything,” he says. “And that’s why we still sound good.”
For fans eager to experience the magic of the Temptations live, tickets for the Scottish Rite shows start at $39.50. Don’t miss your chance to be part of music history – visit www.brepresents.com for more information.
