Prepare to embark on a journey through history and flavor as Saddlehill Winery, nestled within the picturesque Stafford Farm, opens its doors on April 10th to unveil a new chapter in Camden County’s rich agrarian legacy.
Situated on land with a storied past dating back 250 years, Saddlehill Winery promises an immersive experience that pays homage to its historical roots while celebrating the art of winemaking.
The Stafford family, stewards of the land for over two centuries, has left an indelible mark on the landscape. Originally bestowed upon Lt. John Stafford by General George Washington himself in 1772, the farm has witnessed the ebb and flow of history, from its origins as a travel route for the Leni Lenape Native Americans to its tenure as a haven for agricultural pursuits.
In 2004, recognizing the importance of preserving this cultural treasure, the Stafford family entrusted the 140-acre farm to the care of Voorhees Township, the state, and a nonprofit organization. This partnership ensured the land’s protection as a preserved agricultural space, safeguarding it against the encroachment of commercial development.
Now, a new chapter unfolds as Bill and Amy Green, stewards of the land’s future, breathe life into the soil once more. With a vision to revive its agricultural heritage, the Greens embarked on a mission to restore vitality to the land, culminating in the establishment of Saddlehill Winery.
The journey began in 2021 with the planting of vineyards that now bear fruit for Saddlehill’s portfolio of 17 distinct wines. From guided tastings to wine flights and offerings by the glass or bottle, guests are invited to savor the fruits of the land while immersing themselves in its rich history.
Echoes of the farm’s past reverberate through the landscape, where horses and alpacas roam freely, embodying the spirit of a bygone era.
Starting this month, Saddlehill welcomes visitors from Wednesday to Sunday, with operating hours extending from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Reservations will be required initially, with a strong recommendation for booking thereafter to ensure a seamless experience for all guests.
Located at 1407 White Horse Rd. in Voorhees, Saddlehill Winery invites you to embark on a journey of discovery, where the past meets the present in a celebration of heritage and taste. Visit Saddlehill’s website to make reservations and delve deeper into the allure of this historic destination.
