Cherry Hill is experiencing the arrival of winter with snowfall, presenting challenges for the Tuesday morning commute. Meteorologists are predicting several inches of snow accumulation accompanied by gusts reaching up to 35 mph before the winter storm gradually subsides later in the afternoon.

There are additional concerns about potential flooding near the Delaware River.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for much of South Jersey, including Cherry Hill, until 3 p.m. Tuesday. The advisory, released on Monday evening, anticipates an accumulation of 2-5 inches of snow and gusts reaching up to 45 mph.

The advisory notes, “Briefly heavy snow will be possible around the time of the morning commute. There is uncertainty regarding snow amounts and how efficiently the snow will accumulate on roads, given mild temperatures with precipitation starting as rain overnight.”

As of 10 a.m., Cherry Hill has recorded 1.3 inches of snow, based on preliminary measurements from the National Weather Service (NWS). The NWS’s current forecast predicts a total snowfall of 2-4 inches for the area.

Overnight rain transitioned into wet snow on Tuesday morning, with a slight chance of rain persisting into the afternoon before precipitation gradually diminishes, according to the NWS.

Unlike regions experiencing heavier snowfall, Cherry Hill is maintaining a regular school schedule on Tuesday. The Department of Public Works in the township will continue road treatment efforts throughout the day.

Camden County officials reassure that the rise in afternoon temperatures into the 40s will aid in post-storm cleanup. However, County Commissioner Al Dyer advises caution for drivers, emphasizing safe travel practices. Dyer reminds drivers to maintain a safe distance from working snow removal vehicles and relocate parked cars off the streets and into driveways.

Dyer also emphasizes that it is illegal in New Jersey to plow or shovel snow from private property into roadways.

Additionally, Camden County is under a coastal flood advisory, predicting minor coastal flooding during high tides through Wednesday morning. The winter storm on Tuesday afternoon could intensify the situation, bringing moderate coastal flooding impacts to certain areas along the tidal Delaware River.
