Pizza enthusiasts in Haddonfield will soon bid farewell to the innovative flavors of Pizza Crime, an acclaimed pizzeria that has captivated taste buds with its imaginative creations. Known for its inventive menu, which includes the award-winning “pepper Jawni,” Pizza Crime will be closing its doors permanently.
The announcement was made via social media on Monday, revealing that Pizza Crime will remain open throughout January before officially closing. The statement, signed by founder Arnab Maitra, affectionately known as “Chef Nab,” hinted at new opportunities on the horizon:
“With a new year comes exciting new opportunities! It’s with mixed emotions that we announce the closing of Pizza Crime Haddonfield. Thank you to our local customers and the Haddonfield community for all your support these last few years!
That being said, we will be open for the month of January and will honor gift cards throughout the month. Stay tuned on our social media platforms to see what’s to come — This is not a goodbye, but a see you later!”
Pizza Crime first gained attention at the Haddonfield Farmers’ Market in the summer of 2018, where Maitra operated a booth featuring a green portable oven. The overwhelming success led to the establishment of a brick-and-mortar restaurant in 2020, situated in downtown Haddonfield and taking the place of Le Cafe Creperie, owned by Maitra’s father.
The pizzeria quickly became a local favorite, offering a diverse range of specialty pies. Notably, NJ Advance Media recognized the “pepper Jawni” as the best pizza in New Jersey. This renowned creation features pepperoni, fresh mozzarella, Sicilian oregano, and is topped with Calabrian chili for an extra kick.
As Pizza Crime prepares to serve its last slices, patrons are encouraged to visit throughout January and utilize any gift cards. While the pizzeria bids farewell for now, the announcement hints at the possibility of future endeavors. Pizza Crime’s unique culinary legacy and Chef Nab’s creativity are sure to be missed in the Haddonfield community.
