In a dramatic turn of events, a bank robber’s attempted escape came to a crashing halt on Tuesday in Pennsauken when he collided a U-Haul van into several police vehicles. The suspect, identified as Kevin Allure, found himself in custody after his escape vehicle became inoperable following the collision with law enforcement.
The incident unfolded after a 911 call reported a robbery at TD Bank just before 4:40 p.m. Allure, armed with a demand note, had threatened bank employees before making off with an undisclosed amount of money, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office (CCPO). In a bid to escape, he commandeered a U-Haul van.
Law enforcement officers swiftly located Allure in the U-Haul and attempted to bring him to a stop. However, the situation escalated when Allure crashed the van into three police cars on Haines Road, near John Tipton Boulevard. The impact rendered his escape vehicle inoperable, forcing him to flee on foot. Fortunately, police managed to apprehend him shortly after.
During the collision, two officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries, as reported by the CCPO.
Kevin Allure, 34, now faces a slew of charges, including first-degree robbery, second-degree eluding, three counts of third-degree criminal mischief, two counts of third-degree assault by auto, and fourth-degree resisting arrest. He has been confined to the Camden County Jail, with a pretrial detention hearing pending.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of law enforcement and the risks involved in criminal pursuits. The swift and coordinated response from the authorities led to the successful apprehension of the suspect, ensuring the safety of the community and law enforcement personnel.
