In a tragic incident, a Camden teenager has been charged with first-degree murder and second-degree aggravated assault in connection with a double shooting that resulted in the death of a man and injuries to a woman, as announced by authorities on Tuesday.
Nineteen-year-old Avonte Muse, who was already in custody on an unrelated charge since November 4, is now facing serious charges related to the events of October 27. The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office (CCPO) revealed that police responded to a double shooting on the 2800 block of Hull Road around 8 p.m. that night.
The victims, identified as Akeem Jenkins and a 32-year-old woman, were both found at the scene and rushed to Cooper University Hospital. Tragically, Akeem Jenkins, 33, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 8:41 p.m., while the woman was later released from the hospital.
Avonte Muse remains in custody at the Camden County Jail, where he was initially detained on an unrelated charge from earlier in the month. The recent charges shed light on the gravity of the situation, emphasizing the severity of the alleged offenses.
This incident marks another unfortunate episode in the ongoing efforts to address and prevent violence in the community. The legal proceedings will unfold as the justice system works to bring clarity and resolution to this distressing case.
