While it might not have been the historically colossal jackpot that had everyone holding their breath, a Cherry Hill resident has had a slice of the Powerball fortune fall into their lap.

In a drawing that boasted an estimated jackpot of a jaw-dropping $1.55 billion, a local lottery player purchased a ticket at Walmart on Route 38 in Cherry Hill and claimed a generous $50,000 prize. Their ticket was one of five in New Jersey that successfully matched four of the five white balls and the Power Ball, earning them a third-tier prize.

Despite Monday’s drawing falling short of giving away the colossal prize, the Powerball jackpot still stands as a monumental achievement, reaching an estimated jackpot of $1.7 billion for the upcoming Wednesday night drawing. This makes it the second-largest jackpot in the history of U.S. lotteries.

The winning numbers for Monday’s draw were 16, 34, 46, 55, and 67, with the Power Ball number being 14 and a Power Play of 3X. The Double Play, which adds an extra layer of excitement to the Powerball draw, featured numbers 01, 20, 33, 49, and 59, with a Double Play Ball number of 10.

Winning a Powerball jackpot is no easy feat, with odds calculated at 1 in 292.2 million. If you do manage to overcome these astronomical odds, you’ll have the choice of either receiving an annuity paid out over 30 years or opting for the lump-sum payment. Currently, the lump-sum option stands at $756.6 million. It’s essential to be aware that lottery winnings are subject to federal taxes, and numerous states, including New Jersey, impose their own tax on these winnings.

The Powerball jackpot has been accumulating for nearly three months, resetting after a lucky individual claimed a $1 billion jackpot prize on July 19th, 2023. The Powerball reached even greater heights last November when a California ticket holder snagged a colossal $2.04 billion jackpot, marking the largest prize in national lottery history.

If you want to take a shot at this colossal jackpot, the next Powerball drawing is set for 10:59 p.m. on Wednesday. For New Jersey residents, make sure you purchase your tickets before 9:59 p.m. on that evening to be eligible for the draw.

Remember, Powerball is played in 45 states, including Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The excitement and anticipation around this immense jackpot continue to grip the nation.
